The Connection between Healthy Body & Academic Performance of Kids

To keep the body in good health is a duty… otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear – Buddha
There are so many things that contribute to the good health of children. Right from the eating habits to the amount of exercise they get on a daily basis, everything plays a crucial role in keeping the little ones in the pink of health. Likewise, their academic performance is also a culmination of a variety of factors. Hence, if you simply assume that a child can lag behind in studies just because he/she doesn’t prepare well, we would like to clarify that it is nothing but a misconception.
We have many times heard people saying that their children are not able to perform as per expectations, in spite of putting in the best efforts. The problem is that in such cases, people fail to understand that there might be some other underlying issues that are hindering the young minds from being agile enough. And one of the prime reasons here could be the heath.
You must have heard the popular adage, “A healthy mind resides in a healthy body.” Time and again, multiple studies have shown this to be a proven fact. In this article today, let us understand what exactly is the connection between a healthy body and academic performance of children.
Exercise leads to better development of cognitive skills
Studies suggest that there is an intrinsic connection between the development of cognitive skills in children and regular exercising. In fact, researchers have claimed that the effects of physical activity on cognitive development of children are particularly evident in the growing years. Daily exercise leads to a higher oxygen flow to the brain. This thereby leads to an elevated production of neurotrophins. These neurotrophins help in the survival of neurons in the areas that are responsible for higher thinking, memory, and learning. Thus, academic performances are impacted directly when children indulge more in physical exercises.
A healthy body helps to keep the interruptions of diseases away
When children pay more attention to their health, it helps to keep obesity and related issues at bay. In fact, though childhood obesity is a major problem, it is not all that there’s to it. Children are also prone to seasonal allergies, flu, cough and cold, and the likes. It takes their attention away from studies and makes them miss out on important hours of studying. However, when we ensure that our children are fit and healthy, we also make sure that they can focus more on their studies, instead of lying in bed and waiting to recover.
Absenteeism and dropping out are not the issues for healthy kids
Deriving from the point that we elaborated just now, it is also noticed that when children are healthy from inside out, they are less prone to remaining absent from school for a long time. Healthy children thus remain better updated on all the things taught in class. They attend every test and complete every assignment right on time.
There is another fun side to it, as well! When children are actively involved in sports and sports-related interschool activities, they are less likely to just stay at home and miss out on all the fun. So, sports in schools serve the twofold purpose: it makes children healthy and also makes sure that they never fail to attend the classes.
We, at Sapphire International School, recognized as the Top CBSE schools in Noida, firmly believe that the health of our children is not something to be compromised in any way.
